Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Shayne Gostisbehere set a new record.
In his first season in the NHL, Ghost set two records: Most consecutive games with a point by a rookie defenseman (15), and most overtime goals by a rookie in one season (4). On Thursday night, he set yet another record. With an assist on Jake Voracek’s goal in the second period, Ghost officially became the fastest defenseman to 100 NHL points in Flyers team history. He did so in just 155 career games— eight fewer than the previous record holder, Behn Wilson.
His 100 points consist of 25 goals and 75 assists and have come over the course of four years, though he only played two games in his first season. Almost half of his points (46) were scored in his Calder-caliber rookie season, and more than half (54) have been on the power play.
This season, Ghost already boasts 15 points through the Flyers’ first 16 games, though he has sat out three games due to injury. His 14 assists have him tied for eighth in the league (second on the team), and he’s currently tied for second in total points by a defenseman.
Congratulations, Ghost. And keep those points coming!
