Philly is Reviews- Game 41- Shaking Off the Mid-season Blues

Brayden Schenn makes his return to Philadelphia as the Flyers wrap up their season series with the St. Louis Blues. The Flyers are looking to build on their high-scoring win over the Islanders a couple of days ago.

First period: The game opened with Giroux taking down Schenn in the faceoff circle. During his first shift, Goulbourne threw a big check on Pietrangelo, leading to a Laughton goal. 5 minutes later Giroux deflected a shot off of Parayko’s butt, making it a 2-0 game.

The Flyers held a 7-0 shot advantage through the first ten minutes. Flyers maintained the pressure through out the rest of the period. A late penalty by Gunnarsson gave the Flyers even more momentum as the period came to a close.

Second period: The Blues killed off the last four seconds of the Flyers hangover powerplay. St. Louis takes control of the game for almost half of the period before Weal used a nice power move leading to his fifth goal of the season. Philly took back control of the game after Weal’s goal.

Couturier continues the scoring barrage with his 20th goal of the season deflecting a great shot by Giroux. St. Louis finally answered back with their first goal of the game, an innocent shot by Ivan Barbashev snuck past Elliott. The Flyers kill off a late Manning holding penalty to take a 4-1 lead to the locker room.

Third period: Stastny opens the scoring 12 seconds in after a Tarasenko pass bounces off Gostisbehere to Stastny. Simmonds capitalizes on a Edmundson holding call, with a powerplay goal. The Blues pulled Allen with 5:24 left, and they made it count as Parayko got the Blues back within two. Couturier buried an empty-netter after about 20 tries to seal the win for the Flyers.

Takeaways: Another strong offensive showing from the Flyers. They had control of the play for a majority of the game and looked confident with the puck. If they can clamp down and seal the game instead of letting the opposition comeback, this could become a dangerous team.
