The Flyers head to New Jersey for another showdown with the Devils. Philly is looking to bounce back after an embarrassing loss to the Capitals just 24 hours ago. Travis Konecny enters the game on a five-game goal streak, and Alex Lyon will make his first NHL start.

First period: The Devils capitalized out of the gate as Palmieri scored on the powerplay just 3:42 into the period. The Flyers ended up with a minute of five-on-three time, courtesy of Mueller and Zajac minor penalties. Giroux scored on the two man advantage, but the Devils killed off the second call.

Gudas had a questionable hit on Palmieri, causing a scrum and a fight between Manning and Severson. That lead to another Devils powerplay, and yet again they exploited the man advantage as Stafford scored. Gudas and Zajac throw down, leading to a Flyers powerplay which Simmonds scored on, tying the game at 2 heading to the intermission.

Second period: A much more subdued period opened with the Devils on the attack, though they couldn’t solve Lyon. Gostisbehere answered on the other end, collecting his tenth goal of the season. the Flyers had sustained pressure after the goal, and controlled the rest of the period.

Third period: A much slower, unassertive game for the Flyers cost them as Devils tied the game up with just nine minutes left. Then with 1:27 left, Hischier scored for the Devils stealing the Victory for New Jersey.

Takeaways: What a rollercoaster of a game. From fights, to a normal, boring Flyers-Devils game, and everything in between. That’s a heartbreaking way to lose a hockey game, especially against a team in the hunt for the playoffs. the Flyers can’t afford to lose too many more games.

Three stars of the game:

3) Jake Voracek

2) Shayne Gostisbehere

1) Kyle Palmieri
