Philly is Reviews: Game 66- Give Them All The Breakaways

By: Dan Esche (@DanTheFlyeraFan)

The Flyers look to bounce back during their second day in Florida after losing in a shootout to the Lightning yesterday. This game, like most, is another big game for the Flyers as they look to tie Washington for first place in the Metro. It wont be easy as the Panthers themselves are on a quest to earn a playoff berth as they’ve won five straight games.

First period: An early questionable interference call on Gudas resulted in a Barkov breakaway goal just 2:41 into the game. A barrage of penalties including two from Manning, though they were all killed off. Gudas dropped the gloves with McCann after a huge legal check by Gudas. Dadonov would bury another breakaway goal as the Panthers took a 2-0 lead to the locker room.

Second period: A boring period that was completely dominated by the Panthers. Dadonov scored on yet another breakaway. That’s all you need to know.

Third period: Huberdeau scored on, you guessed it, another breakaway. Gudas tripped up Voracek, then Huberdeau overpowered Gudas and turned Mrazek inside out. Konecny would spoil Luongo’s shutout bid with just under four minutes left, but it wasn’t nearly enough to bring them back.

Takeaways: not sure ive ever seen so many breakaways by one team in a single game before. Panthers were clearly the hungrier team and they torched the Flyers from start to finish. Not a good sign for the Flyers getting beat by Tampa and Florida as they face Pittsburgh and Boston in another back-to-back situation starting Wednesday

Three stars of the game:

3) Roberto Luongo

2) Alex Barkov

1) Evgeny Dadonov
