The Flyers look to build on yesterdays crucial win versus the Hurricanes as they take on the team currently sitting first in the Metro Division the Washington Capitals.

First period: The game opened with a period in which both team’s offense came in waves. The Flyers failed to capitalize on two powerplay chances as they didn’t get any quality chances. Mrazek and Graubauer had all the answers as the first period ended in a stalemate.

Second period: Much of the same to start the period as the teams played through some picky penalties leaving much of the period at four-on-four hockey. Gostisbehere opened the scoring with a blast off of the faceoff the Giroux won. Ovechkin tied the game for the Caps as he deflected a shot past Mrazek after Provorov lost coverage. OSKAR LINDBLOM SCORED HIS FIRST NHL GOAL! Provorov put a late blast from the point behind Grubauer with less than 30 seconds in the period to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead.

Third period: Simmonds opens the scoring just 1:37 into the period. Konecny got stung twice after blocking separate shots. the news was broke that Raffl would not return with an upper-body injury. Konecny took a stick up high, then dropped the gloves with Oshie in a spirited bout. Stephenson scored on a two-on-one that was mis-played by Gudas.

Simmonds scored again thanks to a Capitals turnover. Carlson had a beautiful backhand goal that was too pretty to hate. The Caps pulled Grubauer with 2:35 left and while Couturier missed, Voracek didn’t sealing in a 6-3 Flyers win.

Takeaways: This was a huge win in one of the most complete games of the season. The Flyers need to be firing on all cylinders to stave off playoff elimination threats from CBJ, NJ, and FLA. Hopefully this means they have shaken off the losing streak.
