The Rangers come to town as the Flyers playoff chance continues. Things have not been going the Flyers way lately after another abysmal effort cost them a point versus Detroit two days ago. With multiple team nipping at their heels, it’s time for the Flyers to get serious and fend off the Rangers.
First period: While the Flyers initially came out of the gate slow, including a Weal penalty just two minutes in, The Flyers quickly turned that around for a competitive first period. Konecny opened the scoring with a great shot with Georgiev completely screened. Zibanejad answered back for the Rangers after Gudas and Konecny had a defensive breakdown.
Second period: The Flyers kept their foot on the gas in the second period. Voracek scored a beauty of a goal while falling down during four-on-four hockey after Read and Zibanejad took concurrent minors. While they failed to capitalize on a four-on-three powerplay, Konecny scored his second of the night tipping in a Gudas point shot. The Rangers brought the game back within one late in the period as Fast’s shot ricocheted off Provorov past Lyon.
Third period: Lindblom scored just eight seconds into the period thanks to a great play by Patrick. Fast again answered right back for the Rangers as he buried a juicy rebound from Lyon. The Flyers played some serious sit back hockey, but somehow hang on to beat the Rangers 4-3.
Takeaways: This was on of the better efforts recently, but they failed to put this one away. These sit back and pray third periods need to stop, but at least they hung on tonight. The Patrick line was dangerous all night and continues to threaten offensively. All in all this was a game where almost everyone looked good, which is great to see this time of year.
