After yet another lifeless defeat at the hands of the Bruins, the Flyers head home for a Saturday Matinee against the Islanders. The Fly Guys need to step it up on all fronts to prevent the Flyers first three-game losing streak of the season.
First period: The game opened with the Islanders immediately pinning the Flyers in their zone. After about five minutes of the Isles dominating play, the tables would turn and the Flyers would get a few quality chances of their own. After some miscommunication between Sanheim and Gudas, Pelech scored after the turnover. Another turnover would bite them after Beauvillier scored on a neutral-zone breakdown. The period would end with a huge open ice hit by Provorov on Matt Barzal which lead to a scrum and a Flyers powerplay that they failed to capitalize on.
Second period: Gostisbehere found himself in the box just six seconds in for delay of game, but the Flyers killed the penalty. Brock Nelson scored on a two-on-one, which would be the eventual game winner. Lehtera ended the Flyers goalless streak at just over 100 minutes with a goal right in front of Lehner.
Third period: Things completely fell apart. Pelech and Nelson both scored their second of the game, and Lee would pile on as the Isles beat the lifeless Flyers 6-1.
Takeaways: What really is there to say anymore? This wasn’t on Neuvirth at all, the team completely failed him.
